Andrew, a friend of ours, was in pain. Training for the Montauk Triathalon he had a swollen knee that just wouldn’t unswell. So last week he went to Dr. Jordan Metzl, a sports medicine physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The good doctor told Andrew to give running a break and prescribed his Ironstrength Workout which he designed for Runners World. Sounds easy-peasey, right? Andrew discovered that this 2-3x a week plan is anything but. Check out the vids:
It’s an amazing workout that will make you an even more amazing runner. Take Exercise One: a squats-on-steroids thing that is specifically for WBS (weak-butt syndrome), something most of us suffer from. “The key to a happy running life is a strong butt,” the doctor says. Hip, groin, knee, quad issues often derive from weak glutes.
Now that he’s done the workout a few times, Andrew Arnold is still in pain. But now it’s his entire body, not just his knee. So it’s a good pain. Iron Strength pain.
